Miles Anthony – One Month

Friday, November 30th, 2012

One month today, I can’t believe how fast time goes once they are born but leading up to the actual birth time seemed to drag on forever.  We are still so happy he is finally here.  Miles is growing perfectly weighing in at 10lbs and is now 22 inches long.  He is happiest in the morning where he lies around making sweet little noises.  He is still sleeping lots and maybe a little more during the day than at night.  If you ask Jonah he is still really, really loud when he cries.  I think he’s right.  Harry and I still walk around like drunk zombies but we are completely smitten with our newest little Grilliot.

One little tip for new mommies out there, is the Rock and Play sleeper…he sleeps so well in this little bed as it cradles his body perfectly propping him up a little bit at the same time.  We can carry this around from room to room easily and at night after he eats, we change him and put him right back in this.  He falls right asleep and if not then I can gently rock him from our bed and keep an eye on him.  Love it.

Christmas Obligations

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

As the time draws near I always look at Christmas the same way each year, resentful at the demand of gifts we have to buy because of expectations rather on what the true beautiful meaning of what Christmas is all about.  I know we have all heard this but there truly is no better gift than having the presence of our dear Lord in our lives.  He is there.  Every day, awaiting our call for him to be apart of our lives.

I have always felt alone in this but the recent post by the very talented Tara Whitney has said it perfectly.  If you have time, read this and ponder it.

Preparing for a Less Stressful and Wasteful Holiday

Kiwi Crate

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012

A couple months ago I ordered a monthly subscription to Kiwi Crate for Jonah.  It is this fantastic project in a box that comes each month.  We have no idea what the project will be but it has thus far provided hours upon hours of fun for him and I can’t even tell you how excited he gets to see the green cardboard box in the mail.  Each month is a different theme, the last two we received a “Farmers Market” and then “Shadow Puppets”

This months theme was “Making Music”  Friday night I let him open his box and his big brothers helped him read the instructions.  They are all very kid friendly projects that includes all the materials you need eliminating my need to run out to the store to get extra supplies.  Love it.

I really should have had the video camera rolling…J Man was singing louder than he ever has along with his new instruments….his brothers got into it too…

I Got SOOOOUULL, I’m Super Bad!”  – James Brown would be impressed

What’s a good rock song without a face melting Marimba Box Solo!

Stage Diving off the kitchen table was not allowed (BOO!!!!!)

Even Tank got in the act from the next room!

Now it’s just getting silly…

All the crates encourage creative play and this one even introduced “writing music” along with playing their own song, this part was a big hit

I let them sing and play till it wore them all out and like any good rocker he even perfected his rock-star bow

Thank You all, Good Night!

19 Days into Reality

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

There have been moments in the past several days that Harry and I look around and shake our heads over the fact that we are now parents of 4 kids. We are deliriously tired, my house is a disaster as there is construction going on that should have been completed before Miles was even born, I have not put on makeup in I don’t know how long and lots of laundry to be folded

However, we have food in the frig, our heat is working (now) and the boys are content.  We are all blissfully happy and thankful.  I’m not sure what we will do Thanksgiving day, I’m thinking along the lines of turkey sandwiches or frozen pizza while holding down the couch to watch football on TV.  Either way it doesn’t matter, we are thankful to all be together and continue to settle into our new reality.

The idea of capturing any type of posed pictures is just not in the cards for us right now.  This morning I just grabbed my camera and captured the real, raw, dirty faced, bed head, silly Grilliot boys at breakfast.
